In Defense of the Bush

So the grenade thrown at Bush was live...does that scare anyone? Whether you love the man or hate him, respect his office and think about this for a moment. Someone nearly killed the most powerful man in the world, and it was only a miracle of God that he wasn't killed.

I've got no great love of Bush, but not the level of hatred some might believe. I told a die hard liberal about this story, and he went "So close, damnit". That startles me. As often as I find myself disagreeing with him, I would not wish Bush to sucumb to the infamous Tecumseh Curse.

I'd like to think, if anything did happen, we would unite and rally behind the next person in line, in this event Dick Cheney. However, I think we're too partisaned as a nation to do so...which is unfortunate. As Abraham Lincoln, and the Bible said, "A house divided cannot stand".

People tend not to separate the President who is screwing things up frequently from the family man who seems to be really good at being a family man.

People don't like to think of politicians with personal lives...until those two kids screw up and make national media attention of course. Then the media vultures swoop in and pick at the personal life like there's no tommorow. But hey, most people's kids are going to get in some form of trouble or another at some point, and won't make the national media.

I think the whole psychoanalysis of his ipod music was going a bit far on blending his personal exercise regimen with his political stance. Really...an aide downloads the stuff...if anything that should reflect the aide.

And on being a relatively nice family guy when out of office, Michael Moore proved that, whether he realized it or not. His footage of Bush on the ranch didn't show someone lazily sitting around, but a guy working alongside others to dig up roots, etc. The footage from when he was with the schoolchildren criticising him for not moving...I really think he didn't want to scare them. What was he supposed to do, stand up saying "oh my God we're all going to die", then pace forever while the podium was set up or do as he did, remain calm, let them finish the book, and then go make a speech at a podium set up while he was with the kids?
