Point of View

We all have our own points of view. Things change over the years, like how we view someone. Two millenia ago a Jewish carpenter was crucified, most did not take this as a significant event right then. Now he is known as the Messiah, as the Son of God, and that period was the most important event ever.

Now let's look at a less important man, but still well known. He was a hero, in fact there is a monument to his leg which was severely wounded during the battle of Freeman's Farm near Saratoga, New York.

The monument says, "Erected 1887 By
JOHN WATTS de PEYSTER
Brev: Maj: Gen: S.N.Y.
2nd V. Pres't Saratoga Mon't Ass't'n:
In memory of
the most brilliant soldier of the
Continental Army
who was desperately wounded
on this spot the sally port of
BORGOYNES GREAT WESTERN REDOUBT
7th October, 1777
winning for his countrymen
the decisive battle of the
American Revolution
and for himself the rank of
Major General."

That man, that "hero" was Benedict Arnold. A man whose name resounds and is well associated with treason. Funny isn't it? A hero can become a traitor but still be honored. Meanwhile the Messiah can slip right by almost un-noticed.
