He is Risen

Christ is Risen from the dead. We have entered into the Easter season. Rejoice one and all!

I had the pleasure of attending the Easter Vigil this evening at my university parish. There's always something so beautiful about the Mass, being Heaven on Earth helps in that regard, but at Vigil I get heartened even more. People are not there out of habit when they have to wait until after the sun has set to attend the holy sacrifice of the Mass, but are there instead because they want to be there to worship.

And worship it was, seven Old Testament readings and seven responsorial Psalms. An epistle. The Gospel. The return of the Gloria and Alleluia! And for one young man, his sacramental grand slam of Baptism, Confirmation, and First Holy Communion. I was grinning like an idiot for him, because I was so happy.

The only awkward moment came after the Mass at the social thing. I was there with a recently engaged friend when two of her acquaintances walked over and saw the ring on her finger. As we spoke, we realized they thought I was the fiancee and we had to move to remedy that.

Then on the ride home I saw a rabbit hopping on the side of the road near some deer. Hello secular Easter Bunny, perhaps you could spread the word as you hop on by, Christ is Risen from the dead! Alleluia!
