Divine Mercy

Saint Faustina was given a prayer to pray by the Lord, and we call it the Divine Mercy Chaplet.  After Vatican II, Divine Mercy Sunday was set as the second Sunday after Easter.  It is not optional to preach on the mercy of Christ this coming Sunday, but it is required.  The Divine Mercy is all about mercy and forgiveness.  It is a prayer of comfort, but not one undertaken lightly.

Tonight at the Catholic Student Association meeting, we discussed the Divine Mercy, and the girl leading the meeting was doing the novena, which I forgot about this year.  We ended the meeting with a group prayer of the chaplet, and as we finished, I found myself filled with a sense of peace, but also one of mixed sorrow and surprise.

I realized a few things.  The first is that I really meant it years ago when I told a person I forgave them.  The second is that it is the first time I have prayed that particular prayer since my grandmother passed.  Between May and February, I prayed it every single day for her comfortable passing.  Just as I miss her, I realize I missed praying it.

Somehow, in my busy life, I had forgotten just how devoted I am to the Divine Mercy.  And for that Lord, I ask Your mercy and forgiveness.
