Tonight I went to my first Mass on the Grass, or rather it was supposed to be Mass on the Grass. You see, in Catholicism you have to get dispensation from the Bishop to hold Mass outside of a church...which we had. Unfortunately, the weather didn't feel like cooperating. Eventually we ended up moving because of some pretty decent winds and some rain!
So we had Mass in the Student Union Building in our room we have reserved for our use on Thursday nights for our Catholic Student Association meetings. Eighty or so years ago, our predecessors were founded on this campus in the hope that one day they would be able to hold religious gatherings on campus of some sort. Tonight, for the second time in that eighty years, Mass was held in a building on campus, and for the first time in the student union building.
It was humbling in a way, to see the secular and the religious brought together that way. To know that in a place where I chat and hang out in times outside of church, that I was receiving my Savior in Holy Communion.
