Much has been said in recent days about the shooting that occurred in Tucson this past week. Men and women were injured, among them a Congresswoman, and six lost their lives...including a federal judge and a little girl who was born on 9/11/01. Countless people on both sides of the political spectrum have attempted to politicize this tragedy, and to an extent I understand; the attempted assassination of any political figure is inherently politicized. Then there's the majority, both in media and amongst the population of our nation who have stayed in the middle as always, silently mourning those who died and were injured in this horrific incident.
I found though, that the person who said all of this best was Jon Stewart. Aside from about a two minute skit with John Oliver about rocking back and forth in pajamas, it was the most serious I have seen him since 9/11. Stewart is often called the most trusted man in America now after the death of Walter Cronkite, and is often abashed at the title given he is the first to reiterate again and again that he is a comedian, not a journalist.
I ask that you pray for those who were impacted by this shooting, for the dead and the living alike; for the relatives and for people who were hurt by extension and relation. Now, I leave you with the words of Jon Stewart, perhaps the most even handed coverage I've seen of this national tragedy.
