Before I begin, I must beg forgiveness for another politically oriented post so soon. Moving on...
We are all familiar with the words, "I have a dream" about how one day, little white boys and girls would play with little black boys and girls, that the slaveowner and slave's ancestors would be able to play together in Georgia, and across the nation. Yet my friends, there is a lesser quoted part of that speech that I think is deserving of our attention on this Martin Luther King Day, "We cannot walk alone. And as we walk, we must make the pledge that we shall always march ahead. We cannot turn back."
There has been a lot of unrest since President Barack Obama took office amongst the different races, ironic given that he's half of each of the main groups that are so focused on one another. The Southern Poverty Law Center has stated that more than 900 hate groups now operate in the United States of America.
I realize this short entry sounds disjointed, but bare with me. Six days ago, the Raleigh, North Carolina school board decided it was going to abolish their school integration policy according to the Washington Post. Now personally, in my opinion as someone working on a doctorate in Criminology, I think this is a bit illegal as based on the Brown v. Board of Education case before the Supreme court.
Ladies and gentlemen, Dr. King once said that we must always continue to go forward and must never go back. I have proudly said in the past that legalized segregation has never been known to my generation except in a history textbook as the sort of thing that we have said could never happen again. But, if this school board in Raleigh has its way, then I will be wrong and the clock will be turned back half a century. Pray for the future of our nation folks, because it's things like this that scare me.
