Catching Up

Facebook is one of the many social media sites that make it interesting to catch up with people you once knew.  This evening, I got a friend request from a friend we'll call V.  V. and I both went forward for baptism after our experiences at an American Baptist summer camp, I on one week and he on another.  But we lost touch after the baptism they made us wait until the next fiscal quarter for, which was why it was exciting to have a friend request from him!

He's doing pretty well it seems, a stable job, friends, and all that.  Being nosy, I looked under his About tab to see if he had a girlfriend and noticed his religious views "none".  It was a bit of a blow, because I could remember how on fire he had been, far more so than I, outwardly at least.   But hey, our former church didn't mind alienating a few people here and there and as a Baptist you believe in Once Saved, Always Saved...so it's not like you have any souls on your hands after you dunk'em.

Our most pivotal years in whether one remains a believer in Christ or not are between 14-17, the next most important range is the early 20s.  V. like so many I know, apparently said "screw it".  I don't know why and wish I did.  But it made me cringe and want to cry, because I knew that my old church had managed to probably drive off another person.
