The Marburg Virus, as stated in a previous entry, is a Biosafety Level 4 virus. You might say "Pho is just trying to scare us with big words". To further illustrate my point I give you this comparison: HIV is a BioSafety Level 2 virus. On the scale one is the lowest danger, four is the highest, and the much more well known and feared HIV is only halfway up the scale.
Have you ever seen photos of what Marburg and other BSL4 filovirii do their victims? It's something you never forget, that is seared into your mind. Does Marburg and Ebola scare me...quite. Marburg's usual death toll ranges in the 25% zone. As of this date, 157 cases have been reported in Angola, and 146 of those have died. That's closer to the 90% death rate of Ebola Zaire than the 25% of Marburg...so does this mean the CDC misdiagnosed? Or possibly, are we dealing with a newer strain?
