The Cult of the Christ

Missy and I at times discuss the Christians who tend to think of only Jesus, the Christ, and no others. Now, I'm not saying that the adoration of our Lord and Saviour is a bad thing; hardly. Anyone who dies for my sins and those of the whole world, who endures a sorrowful passion like that, is indeed worthy of my praise, for His sacrifice is unimaginable in nature.

Why is it always "YES JESUS! YES JESUS!" or "OH MY JESUS! OH MY JESUS!"? It sounds more like you're having an orgasm than prayer. Especially if you have a voice like that of one person at a fellowship group I attend whom sounds like she's orgasming quietly each time she starts gasping "Jesus. Jesus. Jesus. Jesus. Jesus."

Very rarely do I ever hear these Christ Cultists ever say a word about the Holy Spirit. Much more rarely do I hear them say a word about God. Why is one-third of the Trinity suddenly enough for people? Are we scared of something as large and abstract and powerful as God? Are we unsettled that the word "Spirit" sounds too occult or New Age?

I am baffled, and at the same time, tend to feel guilt, because they make me feel as though I am not close enough to the Christ, a feeling I have plenty of already when not being influenced by their "omg!yay!Jesus!"-ness.

Another strange thing about these people, are that they tend to be the most naive, in my opinion, of Christians. The concept of suffering never enters the equation with them. The idea of evil and Satan is, if anything, more present than all ideas than that of the Christ. They are a paradox to me, a group of people built upon a fallacy.

You stole my thoughts. Again. Somehow, I'm not surprised. ;)

I don't *know* what it is about them, and their tendency to almost completely ignore the Father and Spirit.

Look for a post on this sometime within the week...

Good post, Pho. Don't feel guilty because of the "Christ Cultists"--they're not seeing the full picture.
