"Those who believe they believe in God, but without passion in the heart, without anguish of mind, without uncertainty, without doubt, and even at times without despair, believe only in the idea of God, and not in God himself." - Miguel de Unamuno.
An excellent quote a friend sent me this evening, which made me think...can we, even in our darkest moments, ever appreciate the sacrifice of Jesus Christ? Really, think about it...tortured, crucified, took on the sins of the world across all time, descended into the bowels of Hell, and rose again on the third day...that is a lot. It's got a lot of concepts that are hard to pin down in the human brain too, such as eternity, the horrors of damnation, and the sheer brutality of it all is an affront to our modern sensibilities.
So...tomorrow is Holy Thursday, as was pointed out to me earlier by a friend, and the beginning of the Triduum. As this Holy Week draws unto a close, we come to the most important time of the Christian calendar, Easter, also known as Resurrection Sunday. Entering these final few days, it is important to remember His sacrifice and that it alone has bought us redemption, something that we could never acquire on our own.
