Holy Thursday

Every time I bow before Him in Adoration, I fall in love with Him again. This was one of the thoughts that crossed my mind as I knelt after Mass had ended tonight. The Lord's body upon the altar of repose. I dared to look around...despite what some may proclaim about Adoration, it is not dead. I stayed nearly an hour, and in that time I spent before Him, so did others of all ages: the elderly, the lame, the truly young, a young couple obviously in love, smatterings of middle aged people alone.

It is in Adoration that I am truly able to seek Him and His Will. The Eucharist should never be divorced from the Mass, from the liturgy, but I confess that in Adoration I feel better able to concentrate upon Him. This holds true apparently, a great deal after a Mass to prepare the heart after receiving Him, to contemplate His glory and His mysteries.

You see my friends, my readers, and any random people who come across this blog...this is a Holy day. On this day almost two thousand years ago, Christ gave us His body, Christ gave us His blood. He knew His time had come, He knew what was to happen to Him.

The priesthood and the Church are under grievous attack on this Holy Week. There are outright lies and a handful of truths, of cover up, of sin, of horrible things. Priests are still men, even if they are called to serve Him. Even amongst the Twelve, those whom Christ had chosen personally, one would deny him thrice before the cock would crow the next morning and another would betray Him for what amounts to $25 in modern money. People sometimes ask if we can put a price on human life, and I know that I could not, but for what equaled $25 the Lord was given up for death.

We are all sinners in need of a saviour, fortunately that Saviour is available to us. On this night He instituted His Eucharist, on this night He instituted His priesthood, on this night He would be betrayed. The Son of Man would be offered up for our sins and the sins of all who will ever live. For the joy of the Passover Seder would give way soon to the darkness of the next day, a day when Christ the Lord would take up the sins of humanity and pay the ultimate price.
